Justice Advocates

Statement on Racism
Adopted  September 29, 2020

On June 13, 2021, IPC's Justice Advocates had their first meeting.  The following points are highlights from the team's first year:

  • We shared educational moments with the Session in June, September, November, January, and February regarding antiracism and inclusivity.

  • We created a list of Women and Minority Vendors for the IPC committees/boards to use.

  • We advocated for a banner to promote IPC.  (Coming soon: The plan is for it to be here for the Irvington Garden Tour.)

  • We have continued to have conversations with Ms. Campbell of School #57.

  • We are growing a partnership with Downey Avenue Christian Church, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, and Lourdes Catholic Church to work together to benefit our community.

  • In September, we partnered with the H&E committee to have a follow-up conversation in Christ’s Café following the viewing of the movie “Just Mercy”.  We promoted the event at Clowes in which Bryan Stephenson, author of “Just Mercy” spoke.

  • In November, we partnered with Downey Avenue Christian Church in hosting a forum on "Housing".

  • We supported/sponsored the Christ Café classes, “What the Bible Really Says!”

  • In April, we held our first Community Read Event: “Nickel and Dimed” in partnership with the Irvington Public Library.

  • We helped to lead worship on Justice Advocacy Sunday.

  • In June, we supported our brothers and sisters via the Indy Pride Parade.

  • Currently, planning our next Community Read Event in August.

  • Increased our team size by 33%.
